John Monarch is a well-known consultant, businessman, writer and blockchain technology expert. He established a successful logistics and fulfillment business that continues to grow faster than many other entities in the sector.

Monarch graduated from Clemson University with a major in Physics and Science. As the CEO of Direct Outbound Services and recently, he has introduced innovative solutions to the market. This has enabled customers to undo inefficiencies in the area of logistics and fulfillment.

Do you know the meaning of Steez? If so, how do you express it?

I haven’t heard that term in a long time!  Yes, I do know the meaning of steez and I express it candidly through speech. I enjoy using words to captivate the minds of people and make them think.  I would say my “Steez” is mostly just being curious about the world and the people around me.

What was your dream job while growing up?

I’ve always been interested in tech and science.  Early on, I wanted to be a professor of Physics or a practicing scientist.  I was on that path even after graduating from Clemson but ultimately, I moved into business.

How did you get into current field and what inspired you?

My previous work experience led me to the field. I noticed a gap in the logistics sector and worked tirelessly to find innovative ways to fill it. That led to creating Direct Outbound and now ShipChain.

Is there any current business trend that excites you?

Blockchain technology, without a doubt.  For ShipChain, we’re creating blockchain technology that makes the shipping and logistics industry transparent.  That way, customers and businesses alike can know exactly where their shipments are and where they came from with absolute certainty.

There’s a wide area of industries where blockchain technology can be applied and it’s happening as we speak.  2017 has been a big year for this tech and I’m happy to be a part of it.

What is your biggest professional achievement?

Being the founder of a highly successful business is a big achievement that has become a source of pride. Although entrepreneurial instincts came naturally, the journey was not always smooth sailing.

Yet, I managed to navigate through the obstacles. I am also very proud about my team at Direct Outbound. I am surrounded by a group of amazing individuals who are driven to succeed and provide superior customer service. Together, we form a winning combination.

Has social media played a meaningful role in your professional career?

Social media has made a positive contribution to my professional career and it continues to play a major role in the growth of my business. Over the years, the platforms have helped my business accomplish a number of key objectives. These include boosting annual sales growth through increased customer engagement, brand awareness and gaining valuable insights into customer behavior and preferences.

The two-way communication is vital for businesses of varying sizes.

If given a chance to start afresh, is there anything you would do differently?

If I were to start afresh, I would take advantage of blockchain technology from day one.

What are your goals for the future?

I would like to continue growing my businesses by exploring new value added services and expand into more states. I would like to help more aspiring entrepreneurs establish successful ventures and become household names nationally and globally.

What advice would you give readers on business and entrepreneurship?

To succeed in any business venture, individuals need to challenge themselves. This involves taking calculated risks that enable them to reach new heights. Being scared of trying undermines potential and I have learned that failure is not something to regret. Instead, I use it to challenge myself to correct any shortcomings and turn things around. Real disruptors change the way people do business by fearlessly exploring unchartered territories.
